Selected Chapters Webinar: Disaster Information in National Security

Praise be to God Almighty, the Selected Chapters in Meteorology Guest Lecture (ME-4097) was successfully held on Saturday, October 1, 2022. On that day, the Meteorology Study Program held a Selected Chapters in Meteorology lecture, featuring a guest lecturer in a hybrid format, open to the public as a means to broaden our understanding of the relationship between natural disasters and the stability and security of the Indonesian state.

Dr.rer.nat Armi Susandi, M.T. presented material on “Disaster Information and National Security Stability”

The Guest Lecture began with an introduction and remarks from the Head of the Meteorology Study Program as the lecturer in charge of the Meteorology Selected Chapters course. The event continued with a presentation of material themed “Disaster Information and State Security Stability” by Dr.rer.nat Armi Susandi, M.T. as the Head of the Research and Development Center of the State Intelligence Agency (BIN) for approximately 75 minutes. In his presentation, it was explained that BIN plays a role in carrying out work efforts, activities, and actions for early detection and early warning as stated in Law No. 17 of 2011 concerning State Intelligence (Article 4). Indonesia is a vast country so it requires integrated technology to be able to predict disasters in disaster preparedness efforts. There are still many challenges to be faced in the future such as low awareness, slow response to social unrest, data search and resource mapping, limited high-resolution data, and lastly, the unique mechanism of each disaster that complicates the prediction process.

Webinar participants listen to the presentation from the speaker.

The event then continued with a 25-minute question and answer session. During this session, students and general participants attending the event, both online and offline, were invited to ask questions and discuss the material presented previously. In closing, Mr. Armi advised, “Accelerate, try new things, and don’t be afraid of what people think.” The next event was the presentation of certificates to the speakers by the lecturer in charge of the Kapita Selekta Meteorology course, followed by a closing session with a group documentation session.
