The competition selection process took place from June 2023, and the winners were finally announced on September 12, 2023. The team consisted of four members from two different cohorts: Suci Rosyidatunnajah and Ridha Fatony Iswahyudi from the 2020 Meteorology class, and Mhd. Isfahan Fadyasha and Ridha Amara Aulia from the 2021 Meteorology class.

The National Scientific Writing Competition, organized by Brawijaya University, centered on the theme “Collaborating to Build the Nation Through Applied Technological Innovation Toward a Self-Reliant Indonesia.” The team was led by Mhd. Isfahan Fadyasha. The student, who is commonly known as Fahan, said that their team chose the sub-theme of Climate Change and the Environment. “There were so many sub-themes to choose from, but we chose this one because it aligns directly with our major and coursework in the Meteorology program,” explained Fahan.

Preparations for this competition were directly supervised by Dr. Muhammad Rais Abdillah, S.Si., M.Sc., as the Head of the Study Program and a Lecturer in Meteorology at ITB. Fahan and his team successfully wrote a scientific paper titled “Rebond Jabar” as an Effort to Raise Public Awareness of Individual Carbon Dioxide Emissions in West Java Province. Broadly speaking, this paper discusses carbon footprints in West Java. “The main focus of this paper is on the innovation of creating an application for carbon footprints; we researched the correlation between rising CO2 levels and rising temperatures in West Java,” said Suci, one of the team members, during an interview.

While participating in this competition, Fahan and the team had many personal commitments. However, through maximum effort and collaboration among members, they were ultimately able to complete the paper successfully.

“There were around 2,000 entrants, and this was our first time participating in a research paper competition during our undergraduate studies. At first, we weren’t optimistic about winning, especially since Ridha and I were busy with our internships. Fahan and Rifda were also juggling many activities. We weren’t very optimistic throughout the process, but it turned out we could do it,” added Suci.

We gained a lot during the process of writing this scientific paper. Fahan admitted that he is now one step further in understanding Climate Change and the Environment, and has become more proficient at processing data using Google Colab.

They encouraged their fellow students to actively participate in various competitions based on their interests. Don’t be too pessimistic about entering a competition and assume you can’t do it before you’ve even tried. “Don’t be afraid to enter a competition. Just give it a try you never know, you might win,” said Suci.

[26

post-4082","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-event-news
["GET
