2022 Excursion: BMKG Class I Soekarno-Hatta Meteorological Station

The declining number of COVID-19 cases has allowed for the return of in-person lectures. This situation also provides an opportunity for students to experience excursions again. On this occasion, the ITB Meteorology Study Program conducted an excursion to one of the BMKG’s meteorological stations, the Soekarno-Hatta Class I Meteorological Station. The enthusiasm and enthusiasm of the ITB meteorology students from the classes of 2019, 2020, and 2021 radiated on Thursday morning (October 27, 2022). They gathered at Ganesha Park at 5:00 a.m. Western Indonesian Time (WIB) to receive initial guidance from their supervising lecturer, Mr. Musa Ali Mustofa.

Students have been gathering at Ganesha Park since 5:00 am.

A total of 95 academics (75 students, 2 supervising lecturers, 15 assistants, 1 academic assistant, and 1 teaching staff) participated in this excursion. The goal of this activity was to equip students with an understanding of the application of meteorological science, particularly in the field of aviation.

The students gained many new experiences and knowledge, such as an introduction to the working system at the Soekarno-Hatta Class I Meteorological Station, an introduction to meteorological instruments and their working processes in the Tool Park, an introduction to weather prediction systems for aviation safety, and practical balloon piloting. This activity also impressed one of the 2021 meteorology students, Rubens Setiawan, who said, “The excursion was very beneficial, especially as it provided an introduction to the world of work related to meteorological science.”
