Praise be to God Almighty, on Friday, October 21, 2022, the Meteorology Selected Chapter Guest Lecture (ME-4097) went smoothly. On that day, the Meteorology Study Program held a hybrid lecture on Meteorology Selected Chapter, featuring a guest lecturer. The lecture was open to the public as a means of broadening their understanding of the relationship between meteorology and disaster insurance in Indonesia.
The guest lecture began with an introduction and remarks from the Head of the Meteorology Study Program, who teaches the Selected Chapter Meteorology course. This was followed by a presentation on “Meteorology and Natural Disaster Insurance in Indonesia” by Mr. Hengki Eko Putra S.Si., M.PWK., lasting approximately 50 minutes.

Insurance is protection against financial loss as a form of risk management, primarily to protect against uncertain losses. Indonesia is one of the world’s natural disaster supermarkets, as evidenced by its location on the Ring of Fire. This is one of the triggers for the many natural disasters that occur in Indonesia. Therefore, MAIPARK was established as the oldest general insurance company in Indonesia, functioning as a reinsurer and engaging in extensive research, both in general disasters and meteorological disasters.
One of MAIPARK’s functions is to manage the risks that may arise from disasters. Insurance cannot prevent natural disasters and the resulting loss of life. However, insurance can help communities mitigate the financial impact of disasters. To manage risk, the concept of Catastrophe Modeling is required, as shown in the following slide.

The event then continued with a 30-minute question-and-answer session. During this session, students and general participants, both online and offline, were invited to ask questions and discuss the material presented previously. The next event was the presentation of certificates to the speakers by the lecturer in charge of the Kapita Selekta Meteorology course, followed by a closing session with a group documentation session.
