BANDUNG, meteo.itb.ac.id – The Special Team from the ITB semi-autonomous body (BSO) “Zephyrus” conducted an introductory and dissemination session regarding the Flood Early Warning System (EWS) on Saturday, February 3, 2024.
Given the constant threat of disasters, the flood EWS dissemination activity organized by the “Zephyrus” Special Team is crucial. This is particularly important for communities living and working in areas with a history of severe disasters, such as the Majalaya region in West Java.
Primarily, the activity aims to enhance public understanding of flood EWS technology through an accessible WhatsApp bot. With adequate understanding, community members can accurately recognize early warning signals and promptly take necessary preventive measures.
Furthermore, the activity is significant because it involves testing the EWS device. These trials are intended to provide the community with firsthand experience regarding how the Early Warning System operates during an actual disaster.
Additionally, the initiative helps minimize risks associated with flooding. A solid understanding of the EWS mechanism and practical experience using the device enable the community to be better prepared and more responsive during emergencies. This can reduce potential material losses and casualties resulting from floods.
Thus, the dissemination of this flood Early Warning System is not only important but also urgent, serving to improve community preparedness and safety in the face of flood threats that can occur at any time.
The initiative focused not only on the understanding and participation of adults but also paid special attention to children under the age of 12 through the “Z-Fun” activity. This program was designed to provide children with a fun and interactive learning experience while helping them grasp the importance of Early Warning Systems (EWS) and flood preparedness.
The “Zephyrus” Semi-Autonomous Body (BSO) hopes that this initiative will bring about significant positive changes in flood preparedness and response, while helping to foster a community that is more environmentally conscious and better prepared to face future natural disaster challenges.
